Increasing Regional Philanthropy: Everyone Can Be a Philanthropist! The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is engaged in an effort to strengthen philanthropy in the seven-county region it serves. Increasing Regional Philanthropy: Everyone Can Be a Philanthropist is aimed at improving and enhancing the quality of life in southeast Michigan by significantly increasing the financial resources available for the region's charitable sector. Increasing Regional Philanthropy builds on our 15-year effort to partner with nonprofit organizations, donors, professional advisers and others to strengthen the tradition of endowment giving in southeast Michigan. This effort is being made possible with support from a generous $25 million challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation and by gifts from individual donors. Connecting Those Who Care With Causes That MatterAs part of Increasing Regional Philanthropy, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan will invest $4.5 million to significantly expand its programs and services to assist individuals and families, nonprofit organizations, private foundations and businesses to support charitable programs and causes they hold dear. The Community Foundation will also increase its services to professional advisers - financial planners, estate planning attorneys, trust officers - to equip them to assist their clients to use wills or estate plans to support their favorite causes. Financial Incentives to Build EndowmentThe Community Foundation is offering $16.4 million in financial incentives for donors to make gifts to endowments at the Community Foundation. Endowments are permanent funds that grow over time and provide perpetual support to charitable causes. These financial incentives are designed to increase endowment giving and to raise awareness among those who support charity of the many benefits of endowments - to the region, the donor, and in some cases the donor's loved ones! For Donors - Matching Gift OpportunityFor a limited time, the Community Foundation will match contributions of $1,000 or more to endowments at the Community Foundation on a $1-for-$2 basis, subject to certain maximums. Under the matching-fund program, for example, a gift of $10,000 from a donor to a Community Foundation endowment would become $15,000. Gifts to the following endowments are eligible for match: unrestricted, broad field-of-interest, endowed donor advised funds, and supporting organizations. Match dollars are available on a first-come, first-matched basis until the $16.4 million match pool is exhausted. Certain maximums apply, and gifts must meet certain requirements. Updates on the amount of match available will be available on this Web site. To learn more about how you can make a match-eligible gift to a Community Foundation endowment, please visit the For Donors section of this Web site. Dollars Currently Available For MatchThe total match pool for gifts to new and existing Community Foundation endowments is $8.5 million. As of July 1, 2008:
