2018 Yearbook

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan promotes positive change in the region. The Yearbook is our annual report on grants, donors, volunteers and the work being done to improve the lives of everyone who lives, works and plays in Southeast Michigan.

Great communities thrive when people work hard to make good things happen.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan brings people and resources together to make our region a place where all have the opportunity to thrive.

Over the past year, the Community Foundation engaged with local communities and supported thousands of organizations and individuals, helping them carry out their dreams.

We’re pleased to report on a year of strong growth, and the implementation of expanded initiatives.

This report highlights three areas that the Community Foundation has supported over the years: leadership development; outreach and collaboration among arts and cultural organizations; and services for older individuals. These are just three of the many areas we focus on in our grantmaking.

Stories of Impact

Strengthening Leaders and Capacity

Strong communities are built on the bonds and connections of residents and charitable organizations that are working to improve the well-being of their neighborhoods. For nonprofit organizations, which often benefit from the involvement of volunteers, it is important that leaders have the necessary skills to strategically plan and implement goals.

The Community Foundation has supported building nonprofit leadership skills for over 30 years. Our approach spans from supporting the region’s technical assistance providers to backing individual leaders and their unique professional development needs.

Supporting Our Aging Population

Currently in southeast Michigan, 14.2 percent of residents are 65 or older; by 2030, this population is projected to grow to 25 percent.

The aging population is creating new challenges for this region’s housing and human services sector, which is why the Community Foundation is supporting senior- serving organizations that are providing creative solutions to these challenges.
