The Opportunity

The Senior Director of Talent Initiatives leads targeted strategies and programs to create effective pathways to in-demand careers in southeast Michigan. They will implement industry-focused strategies to increase diverse internships, apprenticeships, and hires, managing industry and cross-sector committees and coordinating with stakeholders.

The Senior Director contributes to strategy development, establishes success metrics, coordinates the implementation of strategic initiatives, and stays abreast of best practices to advance talent outcomes. They must possess strong skills in program management, innovation, evaluation, and communication, playing a key role in DRWP’s leadership and planning processes for advancing opportunity and equity.

This role is initially funded through the end of 2026. As the Regional Workforce Partnership continues its work, it is anticipated that the term of the Fund will be extended through 2029.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively oversee industry-specific committees and orchestrate impactful programming collaborations with leaders from higher education, government, civic and philanthropic sectors.
  • Assume a pivotal leadership role in developing planning frameworks and assessment practices, positioning DRWP as a pioneer among national organizations in fostering innovative connections between public education systems and the business community to advance opportunity and equity.
  • Conduct research and remain abreast of best practices and policies proven to address equity and opportunity gaps, strategically advancing talent outcomes for partner employers through systematic and programmatic approaches.
  • Member of the DRWP leadership team contributing to overall strategy and implementation plans.
  • Serve as lead coordinator and implementer of high-impact programming, informed by critical stakeholders and committee members.
  • Collaborate with DRWP leadership team to develop and maintain annual strategic plans, including iterative planning processes as the partnership evolves, and establish benchmarks against which to measure performance.
  • Contribute to overall project management for the organization that assures the smooth operation of internal projects as well as collaborative projects between and among member companies and educational institutions. Coordinate and tie threads with Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan programming teams, as appropriate.
  • Support the collection of employer and programmatic data to better understand the volume and trends of hard-to-fill positions across the region by industry; to support DRWP’s ability to measure progress and report out to key stakeholders.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills, both practiced and impromptu.
  • Demonstrate aptitude in sound decision-making and problem-solving in high-pressure situations.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement programming.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and national stakeholders to learn and share innovations, opportunities, and best practices.
  • Partner with consultants, as appropriate, to support initiative strategy.
  • Support internal and external communications as it pertains to programming milestones, success metrics and benchmarks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Proven experience in program management and implementation, preferably in workforce development or related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage committees and coordinate diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas and data effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and track success metrics and benchmarks to measure programmatic progress.
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion, with a deep understanding of best practices and policies in advancing talent outcomes for diverse populations.

Education and Experience

  • 7 – 10+ years of practical experience in workforce development or workforce development-related fields.
  • 7 – 10+ years of practical experience in management consulting, corporate or nonprofit environment leading strategy, planning, or business operations, supporting enterprise-wide functions and projects, and multi-tasking on projects with competing priorities.

Benefits & Salary

The targeted salary for those entering this role is $130,000 – $156,000.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan offers a robust benefits package including 20 days of vacation accrued monthly, 5 personal days, 13 holidays, 9 sick days accrued monthly, paid parental leave, and employer paid short/long-term disability.

The Community Foundation also offers a pension retirement program after 1 year of service which contributes 10% of salary.
