Job Opportunity: Communications Associate

The Opportunity

The Communications Associate assists in implementing the Community Foundation’s overall communications and marketing plan, focusing specifically on the communications and marketing needs of certain grantmaking initiatives.

The position reports to the Digital Communications Officer. Initiatives of the Community Foundation Include:  Project Play: Southeast Michigan, Michigan Justice Fund, The Great Lakes Way and the Wilson Arts Investment (Inclusion In the Arts.) 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide communications and marketing support for specific initiatives of the Community Foundation 
  • Managing specific initiative-focused website content 
  • Assisting with email content development and list management 
  • Leading social media content development such as video, stories, photography, copywriting for assigned initiatives  
  • Assisting with events with invitations, marketing, presentations, etc. for assigned initiatives  
  • Creating and managing digital assets such as grant guidelines, brochures, presentations, etc. for assigned initiatives  
  • Managing communications and marketing of grant opportunities aligned with the initiatives 
  • Representing Community Foundation Communications/Marketing Department with external communications/marketing contractors 
  • Copywriting, proofing, and updating content as needed 
  • Coordinating marketing/storytelling opportunities 
  • Brand/Asset management (logos, photography, social media graphics, etc.) for assigned initiatives  

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to take initiative, employ good judgment, and manage projects from beginning to end 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills 
  • Exceptional ability to manage details 
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment 
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to anticipate next steps or needs 
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience 
  • Understands and can utilize digital media management platforms and web/social media management and measurement tools (e.g. WordPress, Sprout Social, Google Analytics) 
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred 
  • Video production experience 
  • Works with a lens towards fulfilling diversity, equity and inclusion values 
  • Willingness to travel within the seven-county region; reliable transportation to attend youth sports events or capture images and/or content during grantee convenings.) 
  • Strong working knowledge of email marketing applications (e.g. MailChimp, ActiveCampaign)

This position’s time will be primarily focused on the following programs: 

  • 50% – Project Play: Southeast Michigan 
  • 25% – Michigan Justice Fund 
  • 10% – The Great Lakes Way 
  • 10% – Wilson Arts Investment (Inclusion in the Arts) 
  • 5%.  – General Program Needs

Project Play: Southeast Michigan
Research has shown that active children go on to live happier, healthier and more successful lives. Project Play: Southeast Michigan envisions a community in which all children have the opportunity to be active through sports—and to live their best lives. Michigan Justice Fund
The Michigan Justice Fundisa collaborative fund committed to promoting and advancing the prosperity and dignity of Michigan residents by stemming the flow of individuals into the youth and criminal justice systems, supporting the investment of public dollars to community-driven alternatives to incarceration and detention, and by ensuring those who are returning home after incarceration or detention receive the support they need to flourish.

Wilson Arts Investment
In December of 2021, The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation announced a $100 million commitment to transform the financial strength and long-term viability of Southeast Michigan’s arts and culture community through the establishment of an endowment at the Community Foundation that will support the sector now and forever.      

Thisinvestmentwill createpermanentoperationalfunding streamsfor 11 of the region’s largest arts and culture institutions, support  annual grants for small- to mid-size arts & culture nonprofits throughout the seven county region, and build capacity of the Community Foundation to lead community engagement efforts around inclusion in the arts.
