Community Foundation for Livingston County Kicks Off Its 25th Year

HOWELL — The Community Foundation for Livingston County launched the celebration of its upcoming 25th year with a gathering of old friends and new supporters at the historic Howell Opera House. Since its founding in 1991, the Foundation has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants to improve the quality of life in Livingston County through diverse programs in human services, leadership development, education, health, the arts and the environment.
“The Community Foundation for Livingston County is a perfect example of what can happen when dedicated volunteers and donors have a vision and are committed to making that vision a reality,” said Doris C. Ostrander, Foundation advisory committee chair. “New donors and volunteers are stepping up, which is making it possible to make more grants and engage more community partners.”
The organization has built an endowment of more than $1.1 million through the guidance of its advisory committee of Livingston County civic leaders and dedicated volunteers and donors. The Foundation is poised for growth as more charitable individuals join in the effort to build permanent endowment to provide long-term benefit to Livingston County and its residents.

Noland, president of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. “The Community Foundation for Livingston County is an important resource to help ensure the ongoing vitality of the county for years to come.”
Recent grants include support for StartUp Weekend Livingston, an event for tech entrepreneurs which occurred October 16-18; a Livingston Education Service Agency (LESA) program to boost kindergarten readiness; and a challenge grant to Cleary University to work with Leadership Livingston to identify and fund new nonprofit programs, resulting in the Heart Hunt Challenge and increased support for Lacy’s Love Dog Biscuits.

The Community Foundation for Livingston County, founded in 1991, is an affiliate of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.
