In 2017, five health-focused Michigan-based funders joined to create an initiative to help address the opioid epidemic through prevention, harm reduction and treatment provision. The project, “Taking Action on Opioid and Prescription Drug Abuse in Michigan by Supporting Community Responses,” funded community coalitions with action plans to combat the effect of opioid and prescription drug misuse in their communities. In 2018, MDHHS and additional funders joined the initiative, and the project became known as the Michigan Opioid Partnership (MOP).
Since 2017, The MOP has helped …
- support more than a dozen hospitals statewide with MOUD programs in their emergency departments.
- provide over 50 advanced practice providers with X waiver training, which allows them to prescribe buprenorphine.
- support five jails with MOUD program implementation.
- expand telehealth capacity in 17 county jails to combat the impact of COVID.
- expand harm reduction efforts in 10 counties.
- expand post overdose rapid response efforts in 7 counties.
- contribute to a collective culture change throughout the state.
