The Jack R. Smiley Conservation Fund will serve as a permanent endowment for the Southeast Michigan Land Conservancy (SMLC) as long as SMLC continues in existence as a regional land conservancy and maintains an office in Superior Township.

In the event that SMLC ever goes out of business or is no longer eligible to receive funding, the Fund would switch to providing grants to conservation groups throughout the state, with a priority given to land conservation efforts in southeast Michigan.
