The Community Foundation for Livingston County provides a unique way for individuals to perpetuate their charitable interests and strengthen the Livingston County community.

Together, the Community Foundation for Livingston County and its donors are creating community capital — a permanent and growing charitable endowment that, through a wide variety of grants and programs, helps the region deal with today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.

Please make your check payable to the “Community Foundation for Livingston County” and mail it to:

If the check is to be credited to a particular named fund at the Community Foundation, please write the name of the fund on the memo line of the check or, as an alternative, attach the check to a letter indicating into which fund it should be deposited.

Checks for memorial gifts should indicate the name of the person being remembered on the memo line of the check and, if known, the name of the particular fund in which the memorial gift should be deposited.

Ways to Give

The Community Foundation can accept gifts of almost any kind, including:

  • Cash, by check or online donation
  • Securities traded on major exchanges
  • Closely held business interests
  • Interests in limited liability companies
  • Patent interests and other qualified intellectual properties
  • Mutual fund shares
  • Fully paid life insurance policies
  • Retirement plan assets
  • Real estate

Name a Fund, Leave a Legacy

Donors who wish to create a legacy and provide ongoing support for the Livingston County community may elect to establish a permanent endowment fund that will provide a source of financial support to benefit charitable organizations for generations to come.

Donors may also set up a fund to support local Livingston County organizations or fields-of-interest. A minimum contribution of $10,000 is required to name a fund.

Donors may also support the Livingston County community for generations to come by making a commitment to support the Community Foundation for Livingston County through a bequest or a deferred-gift arrangement.

Your gift will help to ensure the long-term growth of needed resources to support future needs of the local community. The Community Foundation offers a variety of investment opportunities for donors interested in planned gifts, and has the expertise to help individuals and their professional advisors with even the most complex charitable estate-planning questions.

 

Where to Give

Donors may direct their gifts to the Community Foundation for Livingston County Fund, which is overseen by the Livingston Advisory Committee. Your gift will help strengthen the endowment that provides a permanent source of annual support to fund the most pressing needs of the community today and into the future.

In addition to the Community Foundation for Livingston County Fund, several named funds have been established by individuals, families and businesses in Livingston County, to benefit the community. These include:

The Bell-Borek Library Fund supports libraries that serve the residents of Livingston County.

The Beta Sigma Phi Iota Chapter Fund, established in 1993, provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Howell High School who are entering medical-related programs at accredited educational institutions. The awards are known as the Anna C. Guttrich Scholarships.

The Citizens Insurance Company of America Fund, established in 1993 with a $10,000 initial contribution from Citizens Insurance Company of America, was created to perpetuate the company’s commitment to the long-term well-being of Livingston County.

The John and Anne Colone Fund, established by the Colone family in 1992, provides continuing assistance for charitable organizations and activities that serve Livingston County.

The Elizabeth and John Colone Endowment Fund for the Pinckney Community Public Library, established in 2002 from the Elizabeth M. Colone Trust, supports the general charitable purposes of the Pinckney Community Public Library.

The Detroit Edison Foundation Fund for Livingston County was established in 1992 with a $15,000 contribution from the Detroit Edison Foundation.

The E.D. Ewing Family Fund was established by family members of E.D. Ewing in 1992 to support broad charitable activities that serve the residents of Livingston County.

The First National Bank Fund, established in 2016 by First National Bank in Howell, supports educational, scientific, literary, cultural and charitable purposes primarily in and for residents of Livingston County in recognition of the Bank’s long and proud history of community support.

The Francu/Ostrander Fund, established in 2000, supports educational, scientific, literary, cultural and charitable purposes primarily in and for residents of Livingston County.

The Bernie Gibbons Memorial Scholarship Fund, created in 1998 by William and Jane Gibbons, provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Howell High School who are pursuing postsecondary education. The awards are known as the Bernie Gibbons Humanitarian Scholarship Award and the Paul Bennett/Bernie Gibbons Athletic Award.

The Robert W. and Elizabeth “Betsy” Herbst Fund for Livingston County, established by Bob and Betsy Herbst, provides permanent support for educational, scientific, literary, cultural and charitable activities that enhance the quality of life for residents of Livingston County.

The Imelda “Mel” and Ralph LeMar Scholarhsip Fund, established in 2000, provides scholarships to students graduating from Fowlerville High School who plan to study chemistry, physics, mathematics, or electrical or mechanical engineering.

The Harry Malynowsky Fund, created in 1993 by Mr. Malynowsky, supports nonprofit educational programs that serve the residents of Livingston County.

The Parke Family Fund, founded in 1993 by John Parke Jr., provides support in perpetuity for charitable activities that improve the well-being of the Livingston County community.

The John P. and Janet V. Rex Family Fund for Livingston County, established in 1997, supports charitable organizations and activities throughout Livingston County.

The Patricia Joann Riley Memorial Fund, established in 2002 by Clyde Riley in memory of his wife, supports and promotes educational, scientific, literary, cultural and charitable purposes, primarily in and for the residents of Livingston County.

The H.W. Sr. and Pearl S. Scofield Fund was established by generations of the Scofield family in 1991 in honor of their parents and grandparents, H.W. Sr. and Pearl S. Scofield. The fund supports and promotes a broad range of charitable activities that directly benefit the residents of the city of Howell and the surrounding townships of Howell, Genoa, Marion and Oceola.

The Dr. Roscoe V. and Barbara D. Stuber Fund, created by Dr. and Mrs. Roscoe V. Stuber in 1996, supports charitable organizations and activities throughout Livingston County.

The Westran Scholarship Endowment Fund, named in honor of Roy A. Westran, retired president of Citizens Insurance Company of America, was established in 1993 to provide scholarships for students planning to pursue careers in the insurance industry.
