POP-X is a free community arts festival piloted last year by the Ann Arbor Art Association. The 10-day fall event featured “pop up” art installations created by artists and architects in 100-square-foot pavilions around downtown Ann Arbor. Outside the pavilions, curated activities included demonstrations, performances, lectures and participatory artmaking.
A grant from the Community Foundation is helping to support some of the pop up structures as well as a marketing and evaluation campaign to attract audiences from around the region. Ann Arbor is a popular destination for art and performance lovers during its July art fairs and Summer Festival; POP-X adds a fall festival to enliven the downtown area and showcase the work of local artists.
