John “Jammin” Collins

John E. “Jammin’” Collins was a legendary Detroit DJ, producer, music historian and cultural ambassador. Known for his kindness and generosity, he was a trusted friend, mentor and connector.

His career spanned more than four decades as a club and radio DJ, international performer and advocate for Detroit music. John co-founded the Detroit Regional Music Conference, led Premier Entertainment and shared Detroit’s techno history through Exhibit 3000.

As chairman of the Detroit Entertainment Commission, John helped select the artists and music pioneers honored by the City of Detroit during Techno Week. He also served as president of the Detroit-Berlin Connection and co-chair of Mayor Mary Sheffield’s Arts, Culture and Entertainment Transition Committee.

The John “Jammin’” Collins Legacy Fund, established through the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, will support music, the arts, cultural preservation and opportunities for future generations. Your gift will help continue John’s service, generosity and love for Detroit.
