Introducing the Understanding Healthcare Retention and Turnover in Southeast Michigan Report
The Detroit Regional Workforce Partnership (DRWP), in partnership with the Michigan Health Council, is proud to release the Understanding Healthcare Retention and Turnover in Southeast Michigan Report informed by a series of focus groups and surveys to capture the voices of roughly one thousand frontline workers across four major health systems: Trinity Health, Henry Ford Health System, Corewell Health and McLaren/Karmanos. This assessment highlights the real-world experiences, challenges and opportunities facing healthcare workers in our region and provides actionable insights to strengthen career pathways, support employers and advance economic mobility within Michigan’s healthcare workforce.

Key Findings:
- Limited awareness of and ability to access advancement pathways are major drivers of employee departures and dissatisfaction.
- Peer support is one of the main contributors to employee morale and retention
- Over 20% of individuals who leave their employer also choose to leave the field entirely
