On the passing of Alan Schwartz

Alan E. Schwartz was a founding Board of Trustee. He passed away on July 27, 2023.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan mourns the loss of Alan Schwartz, a well-recognized force in civic, cultural, and nonprofit organizations in our region. He was a founding Board of Trustee when the Community Foundation was established in 1984, and he remained on the Board until his passing.

He participated in the advancement of many major development projects in the City of Detroit – so much so that former mayor Dave Bing created the “Alan E. Schwartz Award” to be presented to an individual who demonstrated a commitment to community service as exemplified by Alan.

We were honored to have Alan on our Board and will be keeping his friends and family in our prayers.
