Olubunmi Parks

Vice President, Talent and Culture

Bunmi believes that people are the most vital resource to organizations. She has crafted a career that has allowed her to be part of supporting them, shaping cultures where they can thrive, and leading change during some of the most challenging shifts in our employment market to date.

She’s an HR professional by trade and enjoys partnering with organizations and leaders who value their most vital asset, people! Since 2005, she has led people-driven HR support efforts in various organizational environments including higher education (GVSU – Laker 4 a Lifetime!), private for-profit (Cascade Engineering), government (City of Grand Rapids), publicly traded for-profit (Element Solutions, Inc), start-up nonprofit (Detroit Justice Center), and now the nonprofit philanthropic sector.

She’s enjoyed coupling her passion for nonprofits and how they play a critical role in dismantling failing systems with human resources, most often the only department in organizations designed to support those that work for it.

Most recently serving as HR & Operations Director for the Detroit Justice Center (DJC), she led a 3-person team in the support of a growing 25+ person start-up organization. She is thankful to have been a small part of the building stages of such an important organization doing the most important work (fun fact – DJC is an MJF grantee!).

In her role as VP, Talent & Culture here, she leads traditional people efforts such as benefits, payroll, employee relations, recruiting, compensation, performance and the like, and she also helps strengthen organizational culture and manage change with an eye for JEDIB (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging).

Bunmi earned a master’s degree in public and nonprofit administration and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Grand Valley State University. There, she was also certified as a nonprofit leader through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. Additionally, she’s certified as a professional in human resources through the HR certification institute and the Society for Human Resources Management.
