Crain’s Names NEI’s Wafa Dinaro Among 2025 Notable Leaders in Philanthropy

Crain’s Detroit Business recently named Wafa Dinaro, executive director of the New Economy Initiative at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, among its 2025 Notable Leaders in Philanthropy.

“This year’s honorees form a powerful network of philanthropic leaders that drives transformative impact through visionary innovation, relentless dedication and compassionate service,” Crain’s writes. “These individuals are changemakers, representing a diverse cross-section of nonprofits and philanthropic organizations, each committed to empowering communities, advancing equity and making a difference.”

Dinaro oversees the New Economy Initiative, a $42 million philanthropic initiative whose mission is to grow a strong community of entrepreneurship in southeast Michigan that benefits all residents and strengthens the regional economy.

“Dinaro has strengthened economic development by forging new alliances with strategic partners, policy advocacy, and innovative capital programs — directly impacting more than 4,000 businesses,” Crain’s writes.
