Thank you for your interest in serving on the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). Our YAC was started in 1991 with the help of a $1 million grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

The YAC helps the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan address the needs of youth through grants to local programs and projects that promote youth leadership in our region. YAC members also learn about philanthropy, volunteerism and community leadership.

Participation in the YAC involves three essential activities:

  1. Review grant proposals from organizations that benefit young people in southeast Michigan.
  2. Visit with the grant recipients to learn how the funds will be used.
  3. Meet with those impacted by our outreach to help broaden our perspectives on community needs.

Please Note:

The Youth Advisory Committee has resumed in-person convenings. You must be able to secure transportation to and from in-person meetings and activities. Please contact us if this is a barrier for you.

Every year the Youth Advisory Committee evaluates grant applications and makes recommendations to fund grants of $5,000 – $20,000 to youth organizations in our local communities.

• We participate in state-wide leadership training opportunities, such as the Council of Michigan Foundations Summer Leadership Conference.

• We engage in learning opportunities to broaden our perspectives on needs of our region’s youth.

• We come together once a month for meetings or events.

We welcome youth from all backgrounds and experiences to apply. The participation of a diverse group of committee members enables the Youth Advisory Committee to make a positive impact on southeast Michigan.

The application period is closed.

Applications deadline is May 5, 2023, at 5 p.m.

  • We are excited to announce that the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is seeking nominations for its Youth Advisory Committee. This is a great opportunity for young leaders to get involved in their community and make a positive impact.
  • If you know a high school student who is passionate about making a difference in their community, we encourage you to nominate them for this committee. The Youth Advisory Committee provides young people with the opportunity to work with the Community Foundation and its partners to address critical issues facing Southeast Michigan.
  • To nominate a student, simply fill out the nomination form on the right and submit it by the deadline. Nominees should be middle or high school students who have demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to community service.
  • We believe that youth have the power to make a difference in their communities, and we are excited to see what this year’s Youth Advisory Committee will achieve. Thank you for your support in identifying and nominating outstanding young leaders for this opportunity.
