CFSEM and DADA: Over Half a Million Dollars in Annual Round of Grantmaking

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN AND DETROIT AUTO DEALERS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCE OVER HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN ANNUAL ROUND OF GRANTMAKING

More than $5.6 million in grants in total have been awarded to more than 140 organizations

DETROIT, Mich., October 5, 2017 – The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan awarded grants totaling $534,660, from the Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Charitable Foundation Fund to a diverse group of 16 nonprofit organizations that provide services to children and youth in the region. This is the largest round of grantmaking in the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund’s 18-year history. More than $5.6 million in grants in total have been awarded to more than 140 organizations. Grants range from $10,000 to $50,000 each.

Programs and organizations that received grants include:

• Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum – $34,820 to support the expansion of programs for children with special needs
• Beaumont Foundation – $20,000 to conduct interviews of pediatricians and school super-intendents to identify strategies to address the physical and emotional effects of bullying
• Boys and Girls Clubs of Troy – $20,000 to support after-school and summer health and safety programming for girls
• Campaign for Black Male Achievement – $40,000 to support improving student achievement and health outcomes among teachers, parents, and leaders working with black men and boys in Detroit
• Chaldean American Ladies of Charity – $40,000 over two years to support the expansion of programming for low-income and refugee families who have children with special needs
• Henry Ford Learning Institute – $30,000 over three years to support workshops that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among Detroit youth
• Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan – $24,000 over two years to support the expansion of a hands-on entrepreneurship program in high schools throughout southeast Michigan
• Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities – $40,000 to support the expansion of a leadership development and life skills program for high school youth in Detroit and Dearborn Heights
• Leadership Macomb Inc. – $10,000 to support a youth leadership program for high school juniors in Macomb County
• Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit – $35,000 for support to increase the availability of internships focused on arts administration, marketing, and performance for Detroit-area youth
• National Society of Black Engineers – $35,000 to support the expansion of the Summer Engineering Experience for Kids Detroit program
• Neutral Zone – $23,000 to support a literary arts program for school-based learning through educator training, school guest workshops and a poetry slam
• Ozone House – $50,000 to support the expansion of a program that offers support services to homeless students in Washtenaw County
• Racquet Up Detroit – $50,000 over two years to support a college prep and career exploration program for Detroit public school students
• Student Advocacy Center – $43,800 over two years to support the expansion of services to reduce absenteeism for children ages 3 to 9 in Wayne County
• Vista Maria – $39,040 to support a program designed to provide intensive aftercare services to girls exiting residential mental health treatment programs

The DADA Charitable Foundation Fund was established at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan in 1998 by the DADA, a trade association composed of more than 200 automobile dealers in metropolitan Detroit. The Fund represents a lasting legacy of the DADA’s charitable commitment to southeast Michigan.

Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) was founded in 1907 by 17 local car dealers, and has grown to more than 220-member car and truck dealers who donate their time and resources to a host of community activities.
