We’re Hiring: Senior Director of Strategy & Operations

The Opportunity

The Senior Director of Strategy & Operations oversees day-to-day operations and strategy implementation. Collaborating with CFSEM various departments to manage budget, optimize workflow, and enhance operational performance. Experienced in grant and workforce programs, they ensure effective grant management. They co-develop and monitor a data framework, engage various stakeholders, establish planning processes and practices, and prioritize racial and economic equity in delivering meaningful workforce outcomes.

This role is initially funded through the end of 2026. As the Regional Workforce Partnership continues its work, it is anticipated that the term of the Fund will be extended through 2029.

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead the Detroit Regional Workforce Partnership (DRWP), cultivating a collaborative, equitable, and results-driven culture.
  • Collaborate with CFSEM’s Finance and Administration to effectively manage the budget, including the monitoring of financial performance against the annual budget and provide regular reports to the Executive Director and DRWP Board of Directors.
  • Utilize objectives and key results, targets, indicators, and program outcomes to determine annual budget priorities.
  • Identify and implement best practices to optimize workflow and enhance overall operational performance.
  • Co-develop and maintain annual strategic priorities, employing iterative planning processes as DRWP evolves, and establishing benchmarks for performance measurement.
  • Identify local, state, and federal grant opportunities, leading grant writing and management activities.
  • Foster strong relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and community organizations, serving as a convener, facilitator, and proactive contributor.
  • Establish clear organizational practices and ensure DRWP has the necessary technology systems to advance key objectives.
  • Contribute to overall project management, ensuring smooth operation of internal and collaborative projects among member companies and educational institutions.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, presentation, and impromptu public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrate aptitude in sound decision-making and problem-solving, particularly in high-pressure situations.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure, including systems, policies, processes, and staff.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and national stakeholders to both learn and share innovations, opportunities, and best practices.
  • Partner with consultants, as needed, to support data and programmatic strategy.
  • Support internal and external communications and storytelling initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Experience background in working in a matrixed environment with cross-functional support and collaboration for project and budget execution.
  • Experience in project management, monitoring, evaluating, and learning to drive strategy and communicating learning strategies to align results with project objectives.
  • Experience managing partner relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of contemporary concepts in business strategy and experience adapting and applying strategic frameworks.
  • Proficiency and expertise in identifying operational improvements and efficiencies to increase productivity and effectiveness.
  • Experience in budget management.

Education and Experience

  • Has 7-10+ years of practical experience in workforce development or workforce related fields.
  • Has 7-10+ years of practical experience in management consulting, corporate or nonprofit environment leading strategy, planning, or business operations, supporting enterprise-wide functions and projects, and multi-tasking on projects with competing priorities.

Benefits & Salary

The targeted salary for those entering this role is $130,000 – $156,000.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan offers a robust benefits package including 20 days of vacation accrued monthly, 5 personal days, 13 holidays, 9 sick days accrued monthly, paid parental leave, and employer paid short/long-term disability.

The Community Foundation also offers a pension retirement program after 1 year of service which contributes 10% of salary.
